Straßenschilder zu Johannes Kepler und Nikolaus Kopernikus in Graz (Österreich) /
Street-signs related to Nicolaus Copernicus and Johannes Kepler in Graz (Austria)

In Graz sind (mindestens) drei Straßen und eine Brücke nach Mathematikern benannt. Zugehörige Straßenschilder zu ihnen sind oben wiedergegeben. Dabei ist allerdings nicht belegt, dass die Gaußgasse nach Carl Friedrich Gauß benannt ist. Eine entsprechende Anfrage beim Bezirksamt blieb leider unbeantwortet. Zu Johannes Kepler gibt es in Graz etliche weitere Zeugnisse (siehe das Denkmal im Stadtpark, das Denkmal beim Umspannwerk, die Tafel in der Keplerstraße, die Tafel im Paradeishof, die Kepler-Linde) während zu Nikolaus Kopernikus in Graz keine weiteren Zeugnisse bekannt sind. Mindestens einen Zusammenhang von N. Kopernikus zur Stadt Graz gibt es dennoch. Die erste Übersetzung von Kopernikus' Hauptwerk De revolutionibus orbium coelestium ins Deutsche vom Mathematiker Nicolaus Raimarus Ursus (1551-1600) befindet sich als Papierhandschrift mit der Ordnungsbezeichnung Ms. 560 in der Universitätsbibliothek von Graz (vergleiche [1]).

In the city of Graz there are at least three streets and a bridge named after mathematicians. Associated street-signs are presented at the top of this page. In Graz there are much more monuments concerning Johannes Kepler (confer the Monument in the municipal park, the Monument near the transformer station, the plaque in the street Keplerstraße, the plaque at the place Paradeishof, the Linden-tree) while there isn't any other object known related to Nicolaus Copernicus. But there at least one connection between N. Copernicus and the city of Graz. The first German translation of Copernicus major work De revolutionibus orbium coelestium by the mathematician Nicolaus Reimers Baer (1551-1600) exists in the local university's library (confer [1]). This manuscript is registered as Ms. 560.
