Das Grab, in dem der Mathematiker Jean Baptiste Joseph Fourier bestattet ist, befindet sich in der 18. Abteilung (division) auf dem Friedhof Père-Lachaise im 20. Stadtbezirk (arrondissement) von Paris. Das Grab ist mit einer Büste in einer Nische ausgearbeitet. Auf der Vorderseite des Sockels ist lediglich der Name zu lesen. Über der Büste ist Schmuckwerk in der Art altägyptischer Kunst mit Bezug zum Sonnengott Ra (vergleiche [1, S. 347]) zu erkennen. Dadurch entsteht eine unmittelbare Beziehung zur Grabstätte von G. Monge. Nun könnte man die Gestaltung der Grabstätte als Folge der im 19. Jahrhundert sich ausbreitenden Ägyptomanie deuten. Es sei allerdings darauf hingewiesen, dass J. Fourier von 1798 - 1801 - genauso wie G. Monge - als einer von 21 Mathematikern (siehe [1, S. 17]) am Ägyptenfeldzug Napoleons teilnahm, in dessen Verlauf von den teilnehmenden Wissenschaftlern das Material für die Dokumentation [1] erfasst wurde.

Die Mathematiker François Arago, Auguste Comte, Jacques Hadamard, Gaspard Monge, Jules Arthur Morin, und Louis Poinsot, sind ebenfalls auf diesem Friedhof bestattet. (Die Verweise unter diesen Namen führen zu den Beschreibungen der betreffenden Gräber.)

The grave where the mathematician Jean Baptiste Joseph Fourier is buried is contained in the 18^th division of the cemetery Père Lachaise in the 20^th urban district (arrondissement) of Paris. The grave is designed with a bust in an niche. The front side of the base shows only the name. Above the bust there is an ancient Egyptian styled ornamental decoration, which is related to the god Ra (cf. [1, p. 347]). This relates this grave with the one for G. Monge. One may argue that the design of the grave is a result of the egyptomania in the 19^th century. But it should be mentioned that J. Fourier joined the "Egyptian campaign" of Napoleon as one of 21 mathematicians like also G. Monge. The scientists documented all the temples etc. which resulted in the collection [1].

The mathematicians François Arago, Auguste Comte, Jacques Hadamard, Gaspard Monge, Jules Arthur Morin, and Louis Poinsot, are also buried on this cemetery. These links lead to the descriptions of the different graves.
