Das Grab des Mathematikers Erhard Schmidt und seiner Gattin befindet sich auf dem Alten Friedhof in der Teltower Vorstadt Potsdams. Das linke Grabkreuz auf obiger Abbildung kennzeichnet deren Grabstätte. (Im Grab mit dem höheren Grabkreuz auf der rechten Seite sind E. Schmidts Schwiegereltern Ernst und Pauline von Bergmann bestattet.) Die Inschrift im Sockel des Grabkreuzes (siehe auch das rechte Bild weiter oben) lautet:

Die Gräber befinden sich relativ isoliert in einem Gräberfeld im südlichen Teil des Friedhofs. Auf dem Friedhof befinden sich ebenfalls der nachgestaltete Grabstein von Friedrich Robert Helmert und das Urnengrab des Physikers Kurt Wedel (Grabstein mit Integralformel der Gamma-Funktion).

Anlässlich des 50. Todestags wurde dem Mathematiker mit einer Kranzniederlegung (siehe das Bild am Ende dieser Seite) und einer Gedenkveranstaltung im Weierstraß-Institut für Angewandte Analysis und Stochastik (WIAS) gedacht. Das WIAS kann als indirekte Nachfolgeinstitution des von E. Schmidt gegründeten Forschungsinstitut für Mathematik betrachtet werden, dessen Gründung sich in der zweiten Hälfte der Vierzigerjahre des 20. Jahrhunderts vollzog. Es scheint es wert zu sein, den Text auf den Bändern des Kranzes hier wiederzugeben:

The grave of the mathematician Erhard Schmidt and his wife is located on the old cemetery in the suburb called Teltower Vorstadt of Potsdam. The burial-place is marked with the cross on the left hand side while the grave on the right is the one of E. Schmidt's parents-in-law Ernst and Pauline von Bergmann. The text of the inscription is given above in the German text. (Remind that the German word "geborene" should be translated to "née".) Moreover it should be mentioned that the name Dorpat refers to the Estonian city Tartu.

The graves are rather isolated in the southern part of the cemetery. The reconstructed gravestone for Friedrich Robert Helmert is also located on this cemetery but also the grave of the physicist Kurt Wedel whose gravestone shows the integral formula for the Gamma-function.

In occasion of the 50^th anniversary of death of E. Schmidt a ceremonial laying of a wreath (see the picture below) was organized together with a commemoration in the Weierstraß-Institute for Applied Analysis and Stochastics (WIAS). The WIAS may be regarded in some manner as an successor organization of the Research Institute for Mathematics founded by E. Schmidt in the second half of the forties of the twentieth century. It seems to be worth presenting the words of remembrance on the ribbons - certainly translated to English:
