english The origin of the so-called planets trail is defined by a miniaturized model of the sun and is located at the junction Goetheallee and Untere-Masch-Straße. All distances and sizes are reduced by the factor 2,000,000,000. On the left in the background of one picture at the end of this page the framework for the model of Mercury may be recognized.

The three-faced column which supports the sun's model shows also a portrait of Nikolaus Copernicus, his name as well his dates of life 1473 - 1543 together with the text (here given by an English translation):

The planets trail of Göttingen is dedicated to the children and to our twin-town Torun, whose famous son Nicolaus Copernicus introduced the modern view of the solar system.

It should be mentioned that Carl Friedrich Gauß is noted on another face of the column in relation with the asteroid Ceres.

The photographs were taken in May 2007.
