Am Wohnhaus mit der Adresse Holzberg 4 sind zwei unterschiedlich gestaltete
Tafeln - allerdings mit identischem Text - angebracht. In diesem Gebäude
wohnte seinerzeit der Mathematikprofessor
Johann
Friedrich Pfaff, der sogenannte Doktorvater von
Carl
Friedrich Gauß.
Auf beiden Gedenktafeln ist folgender Text zu lesen:
Inwieweit diese Aussage wirklich zutrifft, darf hinterfragt werden. Gemäß [1] wurde C. F. Gauß am 16. Juli 1799 in Abwesenheit promoviert und wohnte in der Zeit von etwa Anfang Dezember 1799 bis Mitte April 1800 im Hause von J. F. Pfaff. Im Jahre 1801 erfolgte die Veröffentlichung seines mathematischen Hauptwerks Disquisitiones arithmeticae.
Die Fotos wurden im April 2008 aufgenommen.
There are two differently designed commemorative plaques (but with the identical text) at
the walls of the dwelling house with address Holzberg 4. The professor for
mathematics
Johann
Friedrich Pfaff lived there. He was advisor for the thesis of
Carl
Friedrich Gauß.
Both plaques show the text:
How this is really true, may be unclear. In [1] it is stated that C. F. Gauß received his doctoral degree on July 16th, 1799 in the absence of himself. But he lived in the house of J. F. Pfaff from the beginning of December 1799 up to mid of April 1800. In 1801 his major work Disquisitiones arithmeticae was published.
