Im Zentrum der englischen Großstadt Manchester im Sackville Park, zwischen den
Bahnhöfen Picadilly Rail und Oxfort Road Rail gelegen, befindet sich das
Alan Turing Memorial
mit welchem dem Computerwissenschaftler
Alan
Mathison Turing gedacht wird. Die Skulptur ist auf einer Parkbank sitzend dargestellt.
In der Hand hält die Skulptur einen Apfel, nicht nur ein Hinweis darauf, dass
A. Turing selbst durch den Verzehr eines vergifteten Apfels aus dem Leben schied (siehe
Homepage von Glyn
Hughes).
Dieses Denkmal wurde vom Bildhauer Glyn Hughes erschaffen und am 23. Juni 2001
enthüllt (siehe
The Alan Turing
Internet Scrapbook).
Vor der Statue ist eine bronzene Tafel in den Boden eingelassen. Sie zeigt den hier ins Deutsche übersetzten Text, der auch ein Zitat des Mathematikers und Philosophen Bertrand Russell enthält:

Auf der Lehne der Parkbank sind Name und Lebensdaten und einige Codefragmente mit erhabenen Lettern wiedergegeben. Neben dem Denkmal befindet sich noch eine Schautafel.

Alan Turing Memorial
is located in the centre of Manchester in Sackville Park between the stations
Picadilly und Oxfort Road. The sculpture shows the computer scientist and
mathematician
Alan
Mathison Turing
sitting on a bench holding an apple in his right hand. This apple is not only a hint on the
suicide of A. Turing (cf.
Homepage von Glyn
Hughes). This monument has been created by the sculptor Glyn Hughes and was unveiled
on June 23rd, 2001 (cf.
The Alan Turing
Internet Scrapbook).
On the ground in front of the sculpture there is a plaque with the following text, including a quotation by the mathematician and philosopher Bertrand Russell:

On the back-rest of the bench the name and the years of birth and death of A. Turing as well as some code fragments are given in embossed letters. Beside the monument there is also an information board.
