Monument for Nicolaus Copernicus in Olsztyn (Poland)

Das Sitzbild von Nikolaus Kopernikus wurde im Jahr 2003 geschaffen und befindet sich am Anfang der Brücke, die zur Feste führt. In der Nähe dieser Burg steht auch die Stele mit der Büste, mit der ebenfalls N. Kopernikus gedacht wird.

Neben dem Sitzbild ist eine Tafel in die Mauer eingelassen, ihr Text ist in polnischer Sprache verfasst und lässt sich wie folgt übersetzen:

Das Zitat ist dem Vorwort von N. Kopernikus' Hauptwerk De Revolutionibus entnommen (vergleiche zum Beispiel diesen Artikel). Man geht allerdings davon aus, dass dieses Vorwort nicht von N. Kopernikus stammt, sondern anonym von vom lutherischen Geistlichen Andreas Osiander hinzugefügt wurde (vergleiche diesen Wikipedia-Artikel). Die Ausfürungen in [1] nähren die Annahme, dass der Passus in diesem Vorwort sich nicht auf die "Gelehrten", sondern auf "Philosophen" bezieht.

The monument for Nicolaus Copernicus was created in 2003 and is located on the bridge which leads to the castle. Close to this castle there is another monument also commemorating to N. Copernicus.

Beside the statue a plaque is installed at the small wall. Its text is given in Polish and may be translated as follows:

This citation is taken from the preface of N. Copernicus main work De Revolutionibus (confer for example this article having in mind that three languages Latin, Polish, and English are involved). One guesses that this preface doesn't originate to N. Copernicus but to the Lutherian cleric Andreas Osiander. The presentation in [1] nourishs the suspicion that philosophers are meant instead of scholars.
