Monument for Nicolaus Copernicus in Kraków (Poland)

Am westlichen Ende der Straße Gołebia ist ein Denkmal für Nikolaus Kopernikus zu finden. Es wurde im Jahre 1900 von Cyprian Godebski geschaffen. Der große Astronom wird hier als junger Schüler gezeigt, der ein Astrolabium in Händen hält. Die Statue stand ursprünglich im Innenhof des Collegium Maius, seit 1953 hat sie ihren Standort vor dem Wittkowski-Kolleg. Ursprünglich war sie als Brunnenfigur gedacht. Nikolaus Kopernikus hat in den Jahren 1491 - 1495 am Collegium Maius studiert, dem ältesten Teil der heutigen Jagiellonen-Universität.

The monument of Nicolaus Copernicus is located at the western end of the street Gołebia. It was created by Cyprian Godebski in 1900. The great astronomer is shown as a young student, holding an astrolabe. The statue first stood within the inner court of the Collegium Maius, from 1953 it is located in front of the Wittkowski college. Originally it was designed as a top of a well.
