Kepler Monument in Weil der Stadt (Germany)

Das Denkmal, das Johannes Kepler gewidmet ist, steht auf dem Marktplatz in Weil der Stadt in Baden-Württemberg. Dort wurde Johannes Kepler am 27. Dezember 1571 geboren. Die Frontseite des Sockels zeigt Namen und Lebensdaten

und in größerem Abstand darunter noch das lateinische Wort Astronomia. Die anderen Seiten des Sockels weisen die lateinschen Begriffe Mathematica (links), Optica (hinten) und Physica aus. In den vier Ecken des Sockels sind Nischen eingearbeitet, in denen sich Statuen von Tycho Brahe, Jost Bürgi, Nikolaus Kopernikus und dem Lehrer Keplers Michael Mästlin (in alphabetischer Reihenfolge) befinden. (Die nachstehenden Bilder sind in dem Sinne lagerichtig positioniert, wenn man vor dem Denkmal stünde; das heißt die hinteren Statuen sind oben, die vorderen unten angeordnet.)

Letzlich sind die vier Seiten des Sockels noch mit Reliefs versehen, wobei auf der Frontseite die Muse der Astronomie Urania und auf den anderen Seiten Szenen aus Keplers Leben dargestellt sind. Die Fotografien sind weiter unten wiedergegeben. Die Reliefs beinhalten verschiedene Bezüge zu anderen Persönlichkeiten aber auch zu Werken Keplers. So sind auf dem zuoberst wiedergegebenen Relief zwei Büsten zu sehen, die mit Hyparc (Hipparch) und Ptoloe (C. Ptolemäus) beschriftet sind. Die Grafik des Sonnensystems in der Bildmitte ist mit Systema Copernici bezeichnet. Auf dem zuunterst abgebildeten Relief ist auf der Tafel rechts im Bild die Angabe Systema Tychonis de Brahe, auf einem Buchrücken Tab Rudolphi und auf dem entrollten Blatt Astronomia Nova zu erkennen.

Unweit des Denkmals befindet sich auch das Geburtshaus von Johannes Kepler.

The monument dedicated to Johannes Kepler was erected on the market-place in the city Weil der Stadt in Baden-Württemberg. Here Johannes Kepler was born on December 27^th, 1571. The socle shows the name and the years of birth an death on its frontispiece namely

and in some distance below the Latin word Astronomia. The other faces of the socle shows the Latin concepts Mathematica (left), Optica (back), and Physica. Moreover there niches at the four corners of the socle containing statues of Tycho Brahe, Jost Bürgi, Nicolaus Copernicus and Kepler's teacher Michael Mästlin (in alphabetical order). Finally there is a relief on each face of the socle. While the frontispiece shows the Muse for astronomy Urania (see above) the others present scenes of Kepler's life. The pictures contain several references to other personages as well to some works of J. Kepler. On the first relief there are two bust equipped with the names Hyparc (Hipparchus) und Ptoloe (C. Ptolemy). The graphics in the center is associated with the text Systema Copernici. On the last relief there is a tablet containing the words Systema Tychonis de Brahe on the right, the spine of a book contains the text Tab Rudolphi and a unrolled sheet shows the title Astronomia Nova.

Near the monument there is the birthplace of Johannes Kepler.
