Denkmal von Nikolaus Kopernikus in Frauenburg (Polen) /
Monument for Nicolaus Copernicus in Frombork (Poland)

Das Denkmal, das den Astronomen Nikolaus Kopernikus zeigt, steht vor dem Dom zu Frauenburg am Frischen Haff gelegen. Im Bildhintergrund ist ein Teil dieses Doms, dessen Gesamtkomplex als Wehranlage ausgestattet ist, zu erkennen. Hier bekleidete Nikolaus Kopernikus die Position eines Kapitelherrn. Auch soll er in diesem Dom beigesetzt sein, jedoch ist die Stelle nicht mehr genau zu identifizieren.

Der unten gezeigte Stein steht einige Meter rechts des Denkmals. Die Inschrift enthält des Namens Nikolaus Kopernikus in polnischer Schreibweise sowie den nachstehend in das Deutsche übersetzen Text: "Gesellschaft des Ermlandes und Masuren".

The monument which shows the astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus is placed near the cathedral of Frombork (Frauenburg) near the huge lagune Zalew Wislany. In the background the cathedral may partially be seen. The cathedral itself is part of a system of defences. Here Nicolaus Copernicus worked as a canon in the Ermland Chapter. It is said that the cathedral also contains his grave, but it cannot be identified securely.

The stone shown below is placed some meters to the right of the monument. The epigraph contains the name Nicolaus Copernicus in Polish spelling as well as the following translated text: "Society of Warmia and Masury". Warmia (Ermland) and Marury (Masuren) are two areas in the north-east of todays Poland.
