Das Grab von Ferdinand von Lindemann und dessen Gattin befindet sich auf dem Gräberfeld 43 des Waldfriedhofs (alter Teil) in Münchens Süden. Bemerkenswert ist, dass der Grabstein neben der Inschrift

noch eine Grafik enthält, bestehend aus den Umrissen eines Quadrats und eines Kreises denen der griechische Buchstabe π einbeschrieben ist. Diese Darstellung reflektiert auf den Nachweis der Transzendenz der Kreiszahl, der von Ferdinand von Lindemann erbracht wurde. Daraus folgt unmittelbar, dass die Quadratur des Kreises mit Zirkel und Lineal in endlich vielen Schritten nicht möglich ist.

The grave of Ferdinand von Lindemann and his wife is located within the grave area 43 of the so-called Waldfriedhof (old part) in the South of Munich. It is worth to mention that amongst the inscription

also contains a graphics showing the contours of a square and a circle with the Greek letter π. This is a hint for the proof that π is a transcendental number. This theorem was proved by Ferdinand von Lindemann. From this it follows that the quadrature of a circle by ruler and compasses is not possible with a finite amount of steps.
